Spanish au pair Marta P., in Zerelda Rodriguez’s Bronx, NY cluster, shared about her country to a group of 10 children between 2 and 8 years old. During her hour-long presentation she showed the children pictures of typical foods, traditions, and spent some time talking about Catalonia. She read them a story book about “The Legend of Saint Jordi.” She wrapped up her presentation with crafts.
Marta tells about her experience: “I cannot deny that at the beginning I was very nervous, but at the end, I realized that I had enjoyed the experience a lot. This presentation has been a way to bring my culture closer to American children. I think they went home with new learnings about Spain that they can share with their families. For me, it has been a great time, I enjoyed the children and I learned the value of knowing that we all belong to the same world, no matter how different our cultures are.”
