Did you know that the Girl Scouts are marking the 100th anniversary of scouting? The organization started on March 12, 1912 by Juliette Gordon Low in Savannah, Georgia. “Daisy,” as Juliette was known, had a goal for girls to have the opportunity to develop physically, mentally and spiritually while contributing to their communities.
Girl Scouts are not limited to the U.S. We find Girl Scouts worldwide.
Christine Connally, a community counselor in Md, celebrated Scouts around the world in a recent event. Girl Scouts in Brazil are called Bandeirantes. In our Spanish-speaking countries of Bolivia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Peru, Span and Colombia, they are Guías.
Girl Scouts in France, South Africa and UK are Girl Guides, and in the Czech Republic, they are called Skaut. The Czech Brownies are called ‘Fireflies‘ because their main duty is to ‘enlighten the world.’ Exactly the goal of Global Awareness!

I am a member of the scouts in Austria since 2000 and I LOVE it!! I really miss my kids and all the other instructors since I am here because I was very involved in everything! I joined the scouts as a “Wichtel”- that´s the German word for the age group when I started in 2000! I went on through all the age groups and since 2007 I am an instructor! I love the work with kids, go on trips with them, do stuff outdoor, learn how to tie knots, do first aid, help in the community, do adventurous stuff like kayaking and simply have fun! the “Pfadfinder” (that´s the German word for scouts) are a huge part of my life and made me the person I am now! I am really glad to be part of such a huge youth movement around the world!
I was a member of the Girls Guide movement in my secondary school days and I loved every moment of it, such as going camping, burn fire,learn how to tie knots, doing First aid, going for trips and helping one another.
