Daniela L. in Janet Murphy’s Colorado cluster shares her insights of presenting about Colombia to a group of pre-schoolers.

My name is Daniela, I am 22 years old and right now I am an au pair in Fort Collins, Colorado. I take care of three girls; they are 9, 7 and 4 years old. My host mom recommended me to do my Global Awareness Presentation in the Kindercare where the youngest girl goes every day, so I did it.

I thought a lot about what I was going to do for my presentation because all the kids are between 4 and 5 years old and is usually hard to call their attention. Finally I decided to make some slides in Power Point besides a Spanish lesson. Also, after teaching them about the flag of Colombia, I gave them a picture of the flag that they could color.

It was exciting to see how the kids where asking me to tell them some words in Spanish and repeating after me. They were telling me words that they already knew too (the teachers teach them basic Spanish).

I can not deny that I was scared about how this was going to result but finally I just relaxed myself and enjoyed the time with the kids. I did not think they were going to be so happy of having me there.

It was a really good experience, despite that it was a bit hard to get the attention of all the kids. That made me understand how important and difficult the work of a teacher is.
