As our au pairs learn about the holidays in the U.S., we learn about theirs.  Here are a few special dates in the countries of our global neighbors.

Dec 12 is the day of feasting in honor of the Virgin of Guadalupe in Mexico. This is a happy day for Mexicans and there are fiestas (celebrations) celebrated by all.

We’d like to hear from our au pairs from Mexico-tell us about your family’s traditions and your favorite foods.

Dec. 13 is  St Lucia’s Day.The festival marks the beginning of the Christmas season in Scandinavia, and it is meant to bring hope and light during the darkest time of the year.  Sofia, a Swedish au pair, tells us about the holiday.

Dec. 24 is Heilige Abend in Austria.  It’s the primary time of celebration-gifts, great food, like Christmas day in the U.S.
