Mission Statement
The Global Awareness Program seeks to bridge cultures by emphasizing that cultural diversity is a source of enrichment rather than a source of confusion and strife. It will bring expanded educational and cultural opportunities to the classrooms, encourage better understanding of other cultures, improve communication between cultures, and support the concept of mutual acceptance. The goal is to "meet your global neighbor" and build "cross-cultural bridges."

What is Global Awareness?
Global Awareness is an educational program designed to promote multi-cultural understanding and appreciation in elementary and middle school classrooms.

Au Pairs, who have been selected and trained by their community counselors, participate with children in their classrooms by either supporting the existing curriculum or by presenting age-appropriate modules aimed at enhancing multi-cultural knowledge. Au Pairs are young women from around the world who come to the United States with Au Pair in America to live with American families and care for their children during a mutually rewarding cultural exchange experience. Au Pair in America is a program of the American Institute For Foreign Study.

How You Can Get Involved with Global Awareness
Elementary and middle school educators can contact Global Awareness to schedule a presentation. All classroom presentations are done with the approval of appropriate school personnel. To schedule a Global Awareness presentation, please click here.

If you are a parent, please tell your child's teacher about this program. You can request or download the Global Awareness brochure online.

If you are an Au Pair, visit the "For Au Pairs" section of this website to find out how you can become a Global Awareness volunteer!
